Yes, the cars were this good…
This is the car that made the skeleton’s eyes bug out: a 1954 Mercury Monarch Sun Valley. Believe it or not, this is a one-owner Winnipeg car that’s been on the road just about every year since it was new. Granted, the blue wonder-car has had some touch-ups done over the decades, but it’s essentially the same unrestored car that rolled off the Windsor, Ontario assembly line in 1954.
Three ‘57 Ford Fairlane hardtops pulled in, including this one with an airbrushed continental kit. The rest of the car appeared to be fully stock, which just made the wheel cover stand out that much more.
Griff Gill’s 1938 Ford business coupe represents another 1/3 of the Lucky Devils Car Club. The trio of hot rodders is a regular fixture at car shows, such as MSRA’s Rondex Rodarama. Keep an eye on this site to see more of the thirteen cars that are a part of the Biggest Little Car Club in Winnipeg.
Big 60’s muscle abounded at last Wednesday’s City Lights Cruise Night, including these three samples here. The red ‘62 Impala was just brought up from California last fall, and is patiently waiting to be turned into a bitchin’ lowrider. Meanwhile, the ‘68 Ford Fairlane (below) looks pretty damn good the way it is. The owner stayed until the bitter end, chatting it up with Paul Williamson (of Willy’s Garage fame) well into the cool summer evening.
That’s it for today, but come back on Wednesday to plan your weekend with the Manitoba Car Happenings list. And if you can’t wait that long, swing by the Chapters at St. Vital shopping centre to pick up the latest issue of Canadian Hot Rods & Classics. It’s packed with rare hot rods and even show coverage by yours truly. Until then, keep it shiny side up and keep on cruisin’!
